EFE. Washington.- El presidente de EEUU, Barack Obama, agradeció a las tropas que combatieron en Irak y las que continúan en Afganistán por su servicio y sacrificio, en un mensaje navideño en compañía de la primera dama, Michelle Obama.
"Los hombres y mujeres que visten el uniforme de nuestro país y las familias que les apoyan son algunos de los miembros más valientes de nuestra familia estadounidense", subrayó Obama en su tradicional mensaje sabatino transmitido por radio e internet, en el que también intervino la primera dama.
"Después de casi nueve años, nuestra guerra en Irak ha terminado. Nuestras tropas están regresando a casa", recordó el mandatario.
Por ello, pidió a sus compatriotas "tomar un momento" en estas fiestas para "dar las gracias" a los militares que han combatido en Irak y "rezar" por los "valientes hombres y mujeres" que continúan en Afganistán.
"Nuestras tropas y sus familias hacen muchos sacrificios por nosotros. Así que en esta época de navidades vamos a asegurarnos de que saben lo mucho que apreciamos lo que hacen", enfatizó por su parte Michelle Obama.
La Navidad "es un tiempo para ver el mundo a través de los ojos de un niño y redescubrir la magia a nuestro alrededor", dijo el presidente.
